Puro
Made in Cuba
Wrapper, binder, filler: Cuba
Churchill
178 mm × 47 (18.65 mm)
Price: €55
Appearance: Soft and silky wrapper. Supple to the touch. Very well filled.
Flavors before lighting: Notes of mushroom and wet earth. Draw too easy.
FLAVORS AFTER LIGHTING:
First third: A delicate and subtle start. The cigar gains in volume slightly with notes of fresh mushroom, oxidized copper and coffee with cream. The smoke is silky.
Second third: The cigar continues to open up, becoming more harmonious overall. It still lacks depth, however, despite notes of bitter cocoa and mushroom underpinned by metallic and earthy notes.
Final third: The flavors are saturated (mineral, black pepper) in the finish, with the cigar becoming quite heavy and hearty, making it less appealing but satisfying.
Comments from the panel: “The first two thirds are fantastic and lively”; “Fairly well constructed on the whole”; “The finish doesn’t live up to its promise.”
When to smoke it: After lunch.
L’Amateur’s conclusion: An attractive, full-strength cigar that is worth a try, even if it could do with a few adjustments. Too bad that the finish lacks subtlety. Especially at this price!
