Appearance: Beautiful silky and soft maduro wrapper. Well filled, with a little hollow at the head.
Flavors before lighting: Notes of cedar with a little ammonia. Good draw.
FLAVORS AFTER LIGHTING:
First third: A fairly mild start where precious wood and coffee mix with fresh almond. Light smoke, silky in the mouth, and milky with a hint of spice (green pepper). Mellow overall.
Second third: The cigar gains in volume and strength. The smoke carries aromas of warm mocha, wood and pepper. The burn and draw are good. The smoke remains silky with a good level of spice.
Final third: As the strength continues to ramp up, leather and earth start to make their presence felt, with a few notes of pepper and almond. The final puffs are hearty and a tad spicy.
Comments from the panel: “Lively and rousing”; “A decent cigar despite a few unwelcome touches of bitterness”; Full-bodied, a good aftertaste, slightly lacking in complexity.”
When to smoke it: After dinner.
The Amateur’s Conclusion: This great smoke defies the codes of classic Cuban cigars. It still lacks depth and density to hit the heights, but overall it shows promise.
